When three men, separately, receive a message from the past, each sees his carefully construed life fall apart. Not again. Not now. No way they were going to answer Danny’s call. No way they were going back to relive the horrific events, buried in the past – but alas, history has a tendency to repeat itself…
Cassie Rafferty thought breaking up with her boyfriend was the saddest moment of her day – her life even. She was wrong. Her bad luck hadn’t even started but it would soon enough. A horrible nightmare – will she ever wake up?
Each of the three men approached by Danny’s messenger has his own story – tragic, mostly. Each has desperately tried to rebuild their life. One still punishes himself on a regular basis – “he struggled to accept that God had forgiven him for what he’d done in
Slowly but surely, the past is
Oh God. What a thriller. Mark Tilbury slowly builds up the tension – he deliberately shows us first the impact of the past on the three men’s current lives. We start to perceive a bit and then, the messenger arrives. You do not want to but at the same time, are eager to know which gruesome events have happened and hope that Cassie Rafferty will be okay.
After the first chapter, we are introduced, one by one, to the four lead characters in the book, Danny, Josh, Rob, and Kieran. The author weaves a little bit of their background story into their current situation. Just enough to make sure you are hooked and want to know what the hell happened in the past. The tension rises as the men assemble – with each further chapter, there are also flashbacks to the past. Fascinating.
There’s a plot twist I felt coming all along – still, it was a shock. I really wanted to know more though and this was the only issue I had: unanswered questions which to me, would have provided insight into characters and events. That is all I can say without spoiling the plot! I’d love to discuss it so if you’d like to as well, let me know!
All in all, this was an intriguing, spellbinding thriller which kept me on my toes throughout. It gives insight into characters and how things we do have a lifelong impact on us. ‘You Belong To Me’ is gripping, exciting, and another great read by Mark Tilbury!
